Get This One Thing Right & Enjoy
Meditation For Life
If you want to experience a powerful meditation, simply focus
on your breathing. That's the one thing you need to remember
above all else.
Breathing is the key. When you inhale deeply, you help to
oxygenate your cells, contributing to your overall health and
well-being. When you exhale, you are symbolically letting go of
every thought, concern, or worry.
A few minutes of relaxed, deep breathing can work wonders and
it's the secret gateway to a peaceful, meditative state of
mind. It takes some concentrated effort at first. For most of
us, our minds are racing from one thought to the next. As you
begin to relax and you focus on your breathing, the first few
moments seem easy.
But before you know it, your mind starts wandering.
Miscellaneous thoughts enter into your consciousness. If you
were to sit back and watch this activity from the outside, you
might be amused by the strangeness of these random thoughts.
But since your purpose is to meditate, you need to simply catch
yourself and correct your course. Notice those random thoughts
and simply let them go.
You might not notice it at first, but your mind tends to
meander from here to there, racing from one random idea to the
next. That's simply because you haven't yet conditioned your
mind for meditation. It will take some practice, but the effort
is well worth the reward.
At first it's a challenge. But being able to focus on your
breathing is the secret to effective meditation. It's one of
the first steps to getting there. Inhale and exhale deeply and
slowly, in a relaxed and comfortable manner. As you breathe in,
imagine that you're taking in pure energy and as you exhale,
you're simply releasing all the stress, tension and mental
activity going on in your mind. As you catch yourself thinking
about other things and you will -- just go back to focusing
again on your breathing.
One of the objectives in meditation is to reach a blissful
state of mind where there is no resistance. But it takes
concentration to keep you on the right track, so you can return
to that peaceful state of mind gently.
Don't get discouraged when you recognize the mental chatter
occupies your mind. Simply catch it and release each thought as
it surfaces.
